In 2004 representatives from all historically Latina/o Greek organizations at UCLA came together to work on a scholarship project that would unite all organizations to develop a yearly scholarship award given to freshmen and transfer students at our campus. This was the first project all organizations worked on together and the birth of the "Unity" fundraiser and the Latino Greek Scholarship. After the project was completed, there was continued discussion about possible projects that all Latina/o Greek organizations could work on and this set the foundation for the beginning of our council.
In Spring 2005, representatives of all five Latino/a Greek lettered organizations at UCLA came together with the vision for a council that would promote unity amongst Latina/o Greek-lettered organizations and would serve as a tool to enhance not only their individual organizations, but the Latina/o community at our campus overall. This was the birth of the Latino Greek Council at UCLA. Through a trial year with only a general council of ten members, the council underwent major restructuring to ensure it maintained the high standards it set for its member organizations. Today, the council is composed of an Executive Board, Four Standing Committees, a General Council and a Judicial Board. We are currently the only registered Latino Greek Council in the state of California and one of the very few on the West Coast of the United States. Our programming endeavors and service projects have received much attention from fellow Greeks and Greek Advisors at other Universities.
We continue to ensure our council functions to aid our organizations and are always attempting to perfect our model that has transformed the campus environment for Latina/o Greeks at UCLA.
